PHL 382 Philosophy of Music Application of general theories in aesthetics to the specific artistic genre of music and examination of philosophical problems raised by music. Topics include: the nature and definition of music, the nature of aesthetic musical experience, the issue of the objectivity or subjectivity of aesthetic value of musical works and musical performances, metaphysical issues about what a musical work is and the issue of authenticity in musical performance.
