HST 454 History of the Caribbean The Caribbean has developed its own identity with respect to the continental mainland, marked by the coexistence of multiple races, languages and cultures from the largest islands to the lesser Antilles, and its study is essential to understand the history of the Atlantic World. This course examines the most important events that have affected this region including the indigenous demographic collapse, the African slave system, the center of operations of pirates and outlaws, the Haitian Revolution, the interventions of the United States, and the Cuban Revolution.
