HST 413 Dissent and Opposition in East Europe Study of the emergence and nature of political opposition and dissent in east-central Europe from 1945 to the revolutions in 1989. Course explores how playwrights, poets, pacifists, novelists and filmmakers challenged the Communist-led governments in the Soviet bloc and formed social movements to promote human rights, environmental protection and religious and artistic freedom.
