ED 667 Supporting Language and Literacy Development


This course provides a scientifically-based foundation in the cognitive, sociocultural, linguistic, and motivational influences on literacy and language development in the PK and elementary grades, with a focus on fundamental principles and concepts of the structure of language and building a deep understanding of the relationship of phonemic awareness and the phonological system of language to the reading process. Students will learn key reading research foundations needed to understand how reading develops, how to effectively organize for structured literacy instruction, and research-based methods and strategies used to teach literacy skills to diverse learners in an equitable and culturally responsive way.
