DHHE 651 Law and Ethics in Deaf Education This course is designed to provide teacher candidates an in-depth examination of the current and anticipated ethical issues and dilemmas facing the field of Deaf Education and the role of character education in our society. In this course students will review the educational policy making process and examine the complex web of federal, state, and local laws and principles governing special education with specific application to Deaf Education. Students will learn to apply relevant legal principles to hypothetical situations typical of those that occur in schools that serve students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Students will have opportunities to reflect critically upon the impact and implications of ethical application to legal statutes in education. Credits: 3 Prerequisite: Acceptance to DHHE Program
