This includes training in writing, research and analysis, all connected to the development of theory and social science. It is also a goal of the department to train and motivate students to be activists in the service of progressive causes.

Explain and analyze the complex interactions among individuals, institutions and society.
Effectively communicate and discuss social theories and research findings as they relate to social problems.
The Sociology Department encourages development of interdisciplinary specialties within the sociology major. With permission, Sociology majors may use courses from other disciplines to fulfill electives. See sociology adviser.
